Three bursts of orange

The Africa Room. I look out the window as I fold laundry. The late summer sun dropping slowly, lower behind the South Minneapolis houses to the west. A movement from the tree, floating downward. A sharp burst of orange, suddenly, caught by the hot, bright beam of sunlight.

Just one.

The soft cloth bending in my hands.

Another glance. A gentle, quick flutter. Same hot beam, another burst of orange.

Folding. Look. A third burst of orange.

Sigh.

Small folded stacks.

Tank top, shorts, ankle socks I put on.

Look again. Wait. Stare. Nothing.

Sigh

Shoes.

Not yet.

Anyone Else But You

I saw the movie Juno for the first time this winter when the snow kept me either inside or in snowpants digging out my car for weekends on end. Keeping me from love, life, and much of the outside world beyond a few blocks from my apartment at the time, this movie was a little bit of sunshine. This song, a new favorite. [The video image is poor, but the other videos available didn't do it justice.]

Michael Cera and Ellen Page, Juno

Now, a beautiful summer day, snow a faint memory of the past, and a fun little heartfelt song before heading off to a BBQ under the clear blue sky and sunshine with good company...
